First Visit
We are always pleased and honoured to meet new patients at their first visit to our office. Your initial consultation will consist of a thorough examination and a discussion of available treatment options. This important visit will give the doctor insight into your specific orthodontic needs. We know that your time is valuable, so in an effort to make the best use of it, we may also reserve time following the exam for diagnostic records.
Diagnostic records include X-rays, photos and impressions for study models. This information is essential for diagnosis and development of the ideal treatment plan. This additional appointment will last approximately one hour.
During the initial consultation, we will answer the following questions as well as explain the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.
- Is there a condition that orthodontics can correct?
- Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
- What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
- Do any teeth need to be removed?
- How long will treatment take?
- How much will it cost?
- What are my payment options?
While we can often answer general questions about treatment during the consultation, we will address specific points after careful analysis of the diagnostic records. Dr. Selnes feels that it is important to analyze each patient's unique needs, because in-depth treatment planning is the key to optimal results and patient satisfaction.
Prior to commencing orthodontic treatment, we insist that our patients have a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of, and how long it will take.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:
- Any panoramic X-ray taken within the past six months.
- Complete medical history including any allergies.
- Any pertinent dental history, including the name of your dentist and dental specialists that are involved in your dental care.
